Here's where we camped last night, just up the Dempster a short ways. We arrived home today to everything in good order. We've had a fabulous vacation, having travelled a good chunk of northern BC as well as part of the Yukon we hadn't seen before.
Sorry to everybody for not posting sooner-we barely were able to check our email once since the last time. Not so much wifi in the Yukon as there is in BC.

bear

This is what to expect when you visit a Yukon Government campground...actually, I'd never seen a sign like this before. There were soapberries everywhere. No bears, though. Not here anyways, we probably saw more than a dozen alongside the highways on our vacation.

enjoying a sunset

The view from Jigsaw Lake. We had the whole place to ourselves. Next time we'll just stay there for our entire vacation.

Our dog apparently has no previous experience with water. At this beautiful private lake we stayed at on the Stewart-Cassiar hwy, Milo acquired both swimming and canoeing skills.

The Nis'ga Lava Bed Provincial Park (I'll correct this name later if I've got it wrong). A few hundred years ago the earth opened up north of Terrace and spilled forth massive amounts of molten lava. This is a pretty spectacular site if you're ever in that part of BC

a finger spit on the beach at the campground on the east coast we stayed at several times. This pic was taken last night. A quick update for everyone: our itinerary has changed. The Queen Charlottes are only so big, we moved our ferry back to this afternoon. don't worry, we're not coming home early, we're just going to take our time driving up the Stewart-Cassiar, we want time to put our canoe in all the lakes!

this was our view on the west coast in Rennell Sound (near bonanza beach-lol) from our van-gotta love BC's forestry sites. We are going back down there on the weekend or for the bulk of next week. For now we are staying on the North Coast which is also beautiful but very populated. Comment people! We want to know you're paying attention! lol.

So, when we had just about given up on peace and quiet on the islands we decided to drive to the west side (there's only one scary logging road) and this is how we were rewarded. No people anywhere. Just sand and beach and tides and eagles and deer. Life is good.

So last night at 11 we went for a drive on the Hunker Creek Loop again...the following couple of pics are what we saw...not including the two porcupines and a fox with a mouthful of somethin'. After those pics are the one's taken during Scott's parents' visit. We all had a wonderful time. Now it's your turn.

there's a trail that starts here (the only real pull off on Hunker creek) and runs 30 some km into Dawson...we can't wait to do it

Trying to keep these dogs on leashes is a challenge to say the least.

Scott's starting to fit in around here. lol.

Signpost hill in Keno.

The first place we visited with Lorraine and Karl was Keno City. This is the view from the top of their hill...over 6000 feet up.

We met Scott's parents near Stewart Crossing. There were so many mosquitoes! We discovered all of the holes in our van...every time we woke up there were 30 or more mosquitoes inside. We had to sleep with the fan blowing on our faces to keep the bugs off and to keep the whining buzz they make from driving us insane.

This is where we've been housesitting this past month. The pic is taken from the path to crocus bluffs.

This is the infamous Spruce Beetle. Ugly little...anyways, they pinch you.
